Permission to Work in Restricted Areas

The Government of Montserrat allows access to restricted areas, including Plymouth, for some activities that are considered important to the local economy.

Access is only allowed if a safety plan is agreed and followed strictly. The safety plan ensures that people are in constant communication with MVO and, when asked, can evacuate quickly and safely.

At present, the main activities allowed are guided tourist visits to the former capital of Plymouth and use of the Plymouth jetty for the export of sand and gravel.

Applications for permission are managed by the DMCA, who consult MVO and the RMPS before giving approval. DMCA and MVO will provide advice on safety plans.
